ITV Lorraine blunder as she tips Will Young as Paul O'Grady's For The Love of Dogs replacement

Viewers have been left cringing after TV day-time host Lorraine Kelly slipped up on her ITV morning show and made a reference to her guest Will Young's dogs on Monday, May 22. Lorraine told Will that she'd heard that his dogs had been loud and disturbing his neighbours - only to discover one had died.

And during the discussion, Lorraine also tipped Will to replace the late Paul O'Grady on the prime-time ITV show For The Love Of Dogs, something which the singer said other people have mentioned to him. It comes as Amanda Holden has been mooted as the favourite to replace her friend Paul in the role, reports The Mirror.

Will, who won Pop Idol in 2002, was on ITV's Lorraine show to celebrate almost 21 years in the industry and to chat about his new one-man show, Song From Far Away. Diving into his personal life and asking about his dogs, Lorraine said: "Can I ask you, a bit of a tangent, about your wee dogs? They're causing a commotion."

"Oh, what have they done now?" Will enquired. "Well they've been keeping the neighbours up! The dogs. I heard this. Look there they are," she said laughing as a picture of Will's dogs Esme and Nellie came on the screen. Confused, Will added: "My dogs are keeping the neighbours up? Are they? I didn't know that." "Well, they are. So there. So sort it," Lorraine giggled.

Clearing things up, Will interjected and told the 63-year-old: "Oh, well, the dachshund sadly is dead. So she's not keeping the neighbours up. Must be an old picture! She got run over by an electric car."

After witnessing this blunder, viewers took to Twitter to comment on this awkward moment. One said: "I’m HOWLING at this Will Young interview #lorraine Did Lorraine just accuse Wills dead dog of being loud!"

Another added: "Christ, showing Will Young his dead dog… quality research there #lorraine".

A third and fourth penned: "Lorraine Kelly has just said Will Young’s dog must be loud when his dog has died. Total Partridge moment. #lorraine" and "Oh I do love it when a researcher f***s up. The dog's dead . Well done Will for putting her right ! #Lorraine"

Continuing their discussion of their love of dogs - Will also has two rescue Pitbull dogs - Lorraine tipped Will to become to new face of the late Paul O'Grady's popular television show For The Love of Dogs, now in its eleventh season following the sudden death of the presenter in March.

Lorraine said to Will: "That's what I was going to say to you about rescue dogs. You know how sadly Paul O'Grady is no longer with us, but the show has to go on, I'd love to see you doing it."

"Oh my god, I'd love to do that," Will exclaimed, adding how the make up and hair artist for Lorraine also said the very same thing to him earlier that day.

"Can we phone up?... I think Paul would be very happy for you to do it, he would give you his blessing," Lorraine said as Will Young gave many more reasons as to why he'd be the perfect fit - he lives in Battersea, he used to go on Paul's show with his two pooches and his first family dog was a rescue from Battersea Cats and Dog centre, the rescue centre where the show is filmed.

But viewers and fans of the show have mixed reactions on this proposition. One said: "If he replaced the wonderful Paul O'Grady on #fortheloveofdogs that would be completely brilliant!" while another said: "Will Young taking over For Yhe Love Of Dogs NOOOOOOOOO #lorraine."

Lorraine airs on ITV1 at 9am on weekdays.
