'It was really easy' - Pascal Struijk's first words after penning new Leeds United contract

Pascal Struijk insists extending his Leeds United contract was an easy decision to make, as he continues to strive towards becoming the ‘best version’ of himself. The defender has penned a new four-and-a-half year contract extension at Elland Road, keeping him tied down until the summer of 2027.

Struijk has been one of Jesse Marsch’s most consistent performers this season, underlining his versatility by making the left-back spot his own ahead of Junior Firpo, despite him being a centre-back by trade. The 23-year-old’s displays have seen him recognised on the international scene, too, as he was included in Louis van Gaal’s provisional Netherlands World Cup squad.

After securing his future at Elland Road, he’ll be keen to earn a full international call-up and further establish himself as one of the first names on Marsch’s Premier League teamsheet.

“It feels really good,” Struijk told the club website after penning the deal. “It's been a while for me in the club now, and I'm really happy to extend my journey.

“As in the song, a lot of ups and downs, but not too many because I haven't been here so long. Almost getting to promotion, not getting promoted, but the next year we did. Then staying in the Premier League, a really good season, the next season was a little bit tricky but we managed to stay in and now we're here trying to finish the season as good as possible.

“I came here with one target, and that was to become my best version, or at least the player I want to become, and then play in the Premier League because I think it's the best league in the world. And, the journey so far has been really good.

“I think I've been growing as a person, as a player, but in general everything that has come with it, it's been really good to me. It's amazing club. The fans that come with it, they're amazing.

“Just the whole group as a team, as players, we are really good group, nice group to have. I come into training every day with a smile. So it was really easy for me to extend it because I am really happy and I hope to stay happy for a couple more years.”
