Israeli Military Intelligence Chief Resigns Over Hamas Attack

Hamas Attack Israel.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — The Israeli military announced on Monday that the head of its intelligence corps has resigned in the wake of the failures surrounding Hamas' unprecedented attack on October 7. This attack breached Israel's formidable defenses and resulted in significant casualties and captives.

The attack, carried out by Hamas, led to the tragic loss of 1,200 lives, predominantly civilians, with approximately 250 individuals being taken captive. This incident also marked the beginning of a six-month-long conflict against Hamas in Gaza.

Aharon Haliva, who served as the head of Israel's military intelligence, is the first senior Israeli official to step down in response to the attack. Following the assault in October, Haliva publicly acknowledged his responsibility for failing to prevent the attack.

In a statement released by the Israeli military, it was confirmed that the military chief of staff has accepted Haliva's resignation and expressed gratitude for his service. Haliva's decision to resign may pave the way for other top security officials in Israel to take accountability for their roles in the attack and consider stepping down.
