Israeli forces engaged Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists on Sunday night in the Nur Shams camp east of Tulkarm in northern Samaria, Ynet reported.
“The clashes erupted after more than 60 Israeli military vehicles entered Tulkarm and Nur Shams, with army bulldozers destroying streets and infrastructure in the camp to clear potential roadside bombs,” said Ynet.
Islamic Jihad is known to oppose the peace process and the negotiation approach with Israel. It adopts an armed struggle against the Israeli occupation like Hamas. Islamic Jihad is a very close ally with Iran. Because of the links to Iran, we are seeing one of the causes of Israel’s attack,” said Ibrahim Fraihat from the Doha Institute to Al Jazeera.
The Tulkarm battalion of Palestinian Islamic Jihad published a video appearing to show an IED detonating next to an Israeli bulldozer.
The IDF has been deploying bulldozers to clear IEDs since a roadside bomb exploded next to an armored vehicle during a counterterror operation in Jenin in June, wounding several soldiers.
Palestinian media reported several injuries during Sunday’s confrontation. No Israeli casualties were reported.
According to the European Council on Foreign relations; Islamic Jihad acts as an elite vanguard rather than a broad community-based movement and is opposed to political engagement with Israel. It has a long history of attacking Israeli soldiers and civilians, dating back to the 1980s. Iran remains a key source of funding to this day.
Three Arab teens arrested for Jerusalem knife attack
“On Saturday, police arrested three residents of Bethlehem (ages 17, 18 and 19) in connection with last Thursday night’s suspected terror attack in Jerusalem’s Gilo neighborhood,” said police forces. Police said the arrests came after the completion of a joint investigation carried out by the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office and the Israel Security Agency.
One person was wounded in the attack.
Large police forces were called to the scene after the stabbing, and a search was launched for the assailants. Two knives were found at the scene.
