Inventing Anna: Rachel Williams appears on Lorraine to share story of fake heiress

The victim of a fake heiress who fleeced friends out of thousands of dollars appeared on Lorraine this morning to share her ordeal.

The story of Anna Sorokin is told in a brand-new Netflix series called 'Inventing Anna', which is currently trending at number one on the popular streaming service.

And former friend Rachel DeLoache Williams, portayed by Katie Lowes in the series, appeared on Lorraine this morning to bring Anna's actions to light.

Rachel DeLoache Williams, 33, spoke to Christine Lampard live from San Diego about how she was scammed by the fake New York heiress.

She told of how Anna and Rachel had formed a year-long bond before travelling to Marrakesh on what was believed to be an all-expenses paid trip in May 2017.

As the holiday continued, Rachel said she began to notice that Anna was being scrutinised by hotel managers and security when paying for things.

And, as Rachel told Christine Lampard this morning, at the end of the trip Anna's card coincidentally didn't work, so Rachel was, as she put it, "boxed into a corner to put the total cost of the trip on my card, as a temporary hold".

The bill amounted to $62,000, which is equivalent to £46,000 - and Rachel says she never saw the money back that Anna promised her.

Speaking to stand-in Lorraine host Christine Lampard, the 33-year-old said: "You never really expect it to be your friends - once you've built up trust with someone, it's hard to think that they could break it like that.

"I have to be honest, I never really seen it coming.

"Anna was a bold character and had this intoxicating aura about her, she was very entertaining and certainly had me fooled."

Rachel, who was a former Vanity Fair picture researcher, has since released a book about her experience with the serial scammer, titled 'My Friend Anna: The true story of the fake heiress of New York City'.

You can watch Netflix' portrayal of the story, called 'Inventing Anna' on the streaming service.
