Inside the new The Welsh House set to open in the old Marco Pierre White restaurant in Swansea

The Welsh House will open in the old Marco Pierre White restaurant in Swansea this week. The brand, which already has venues in Cardiff and Neath, will launch in Swansea on Friday, July 7, in the J-shed buildings of Swansea Marina. The Swansea venue which is now taking bookings was originally expected to open in May prior to the new Neath venue, which opened last month.

With a focus on locally-sourced Welsh food and drink and sustainability, the restaurant and bar is home to SA1's largest outdoor drinking and dining area. It is licensed until 2am and The Welsh House aims to become the go-to place for dinner and late-night drinks with live music every weekend from local Welsh artists. HD screens throughout the venue will show sporting events so you can watch the game while you enjoy a drink.

The Cardiff restaurant and gin bar of the same name opened in the city centre in February this year. Marco Pierre White also helped to create the menu. You can get more Swansea news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

The Welsh House, Swansea, will offer a menu of affordable, quality, familiar dishes, said a spokesperson for the business. Meals on offer include classics such as shepherd's pie, cawl, mac and cheese and "grass-fed farm-assured and quality Welsh cuts."

General manager Joanna Davies said: “We use our specials board to offer changing dishes based upon availability and seasonality, sourced from local markets and our trusted suppliers. We love to make your experience even more memorable and let you try something even more special and suitable to your occasion, from speciality ingredients to premium sharing dishes and steaks." The restaurant will also offer a traditional carvery on Sundays.

Drinks on offer will include Katherine Jenkins' Cygnet gin, Penderyn whiskey, Perthyn gin and Gower brewery beers. A spokesperson for The Welsh House said: "The Welsh House experience isn’t high end or pretentious, it’s all about affordable quality experiences with family and friends. The business has hearty values, and the core offering is based upon value for money. Taking into consideration the current economic climate and cost-of-living crisis."
