How to watch the IPL 2024: stream the Indian Premier League online or on TV

Chennai Super Kings' Ambati Rayudu bats in the IPL 2023 final.

The IPL 2024 is now heading to the final! Yes, after a quite brilliant tournament, we at last have our two finalists — the Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Kolkata Knight Riders easily beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier to go though to Sunday's final. On Wednesday the Rajasthan Royals knocked out the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Then on Friday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad beat the Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs to make the final. But will the Kolkata Knight Riders or the Sunrisers Hyderabad win this year's IPL? The top two teams from the league stage deserve their place in the final. The Knight Riders are marginal favorites to win, but anything could happen!

How to stream

The IPL is one of the biggest sports events in the world, with attendance highest among cricket championships, and it's massive not just for Indian cricket fans but for viewers around the world.

If you're one of those international cricket fans who wants to catch the final, here's how to watch the IPL 2024 online or on TV.

How to watch IPL 2024 online in the US

In the US, you have one main option for streaming IPL: Willow TV, a 24/7 live cricket channel. If your cable package includes this then you're in business, but if not you can stream it using a live TV streaming service called Sling TV.

Sling normally costs $40 per month for its Blue or Orange plans (the former with more news and entertainment channels the latter with more sports ones, either is fine for this) or $55 monthly for a combined package, with your first month half price. For Willow TV you'll need to pay $10 extra per month though — this is for the World Sports extra package which includes the channel.

Luckily, Sling is running a temporary deal that lets you sign up to Willow for just $10, without giving you all of the Sling Blue and Sling Orange channels.

After a last-minute deal, it's been confirmed that regular IPL broadcaster Sky TV is going to be showing it again this year.

Sky TV shows the IPL through Sky Sports, a bundle that costs £46 per month (though less if you already have Sky TV) and you can use the channel Sky Sports Cricket for highlights and live games of other cricket tournaments and matches too.

How to watch IPL 2024 online in India

Cricket fans in India can watch the IPL for free thanks to Jio Cinema, as this free service will be showing live streams of all of the Indian Premier League games. According to our tester, you don't even need to create an account, as in past years you've needed to create one using an Indian phone number.

You can also watch IPL streams on Star Sports. You can either watch via the Star Sports TV channels or by getting a Disney Plus Hotstar subscription.

How to watch IPL 2024 online in Australia

You can watch on Fox Sports and via Foxtel. If you don't have Fox, another option is to sign up to Kayo sports. It includes over 50 other sports and it has no lock-in contracts from $25 a month.

How to watch IPL 2024 online everywhere else

If you're going to be away from your normal TV setup but still want to watch the Indian Premier League, you might run into some problems. Thankfully, you can solve this exact issue with a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

A VPN lets you change your IP address to that of the area of what you want to watch, meaning you can tune in to your favorite sports, shows or other content even if you're not there. Our favorite is NordVPN, which is the No. 1-rated VPN in the world right now according to our sister site, TechRadar.

How to use a VPN to watch any stream

  • Download the app at NordVPN
  • Choose the location of the streaming service you want to watch (UK, US, etc)
  • Navigate to the streaming service and start watching!

IPL 2024: everything you need to know

What teams are in the IPL 2024?

There are 10 teams playing in the Indian Premier League:

  • Chennai Super Kings
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Kolkata Knight Riders
  • Mumbai Indians
  • Punjab Kings
  • Rajasthan Royals
  • Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad
  • Lucknow Super Giants
  • Gujarat Titans.

How many matches will each team play in the IPL 2024?

Each time will play 18 matches in the group stage. Each team will play every other team twice, once at home and once away, with points counted up for each result.

The four teams with the most points will then qualify for the playoffs.

What type of cricket does the IPL follow?

The Indian Premier League follows Twenty20 cricket rules, so the games are short and sweet.

If you're not aware, this style lets each team play 20 overs (rounds of 6 bowls) each, so it doesn't drag on for the same length as ODIs or test matches.
