How Matty Lees made Grand Final history after opening try

St Helens are on the verge of Super League history as they chase down a fourth consecutive Grand Final title, but they secured another piece of history in the opening minutes of the game.

Matty Lees got the Saints off to a phenomenal start after storming over for the first try of the game after just two minutes and 26 seconds. The England prop was put to the line after a phenomenal piece of skill by Jonny Lomax.

In scoring so early, Saints set a new Super League record for the quickest try in a Grand Final. It isn't the big piece of history Saints are after at Old Trafford. Victory would secure a historic fourth title but also their ninth overall, which would see them the outright leaders given they are currently tied on eight triumphs, the same number as Leeds Rhinos.
