Hotel worker dies after 'breathing stunt goes wrong' in pool at luxury UK resort

A hotel worker has died after a reportedly breathing stunt went wrong a swimming pool at a luxury Scottish resort.

The 31-year-old man was discovered in the pool at Portavadie Spa at Loch Fyne, Argyll.

Emergency services were called to the resort on Thursday afternoon following reports the man had been "taken unwell".

He was later taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth's Hospital in Glasgow, but tragically died on Saturday.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances in the man's death, while reports have emerged that the man had been attempting a breath-holding exercise thought to boost health and wellbeing, although this has not been confirmed.

"He was eventually seen floating face down in the pool."

Portavadie is an award-winning health club near Tighnabruaich, on the west coast of Scotland.

Following the incident, the pool was closed off by police for investigation.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "On Thursday, police were called to a resort in Portavadie after a report that a man had taken unwell within.

"Medical staff describe his condition as critical. Inquiries are ongoing."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 1.28pm on June 29 to attend an incident at Portavadie, Tighnabruaich.

"We dispatched two ambulances and the Helimed to the scene, and a patient was transported to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital."
