Warner Bros. Discovery executives are currently aiming to finalise deals for a streaming project based on JK Rowling's Harry Potter book series, reports have said.
According to Bloomberg, the upcoming spin-off show will be taken directly from JK Rowling's seven fantasy novels, with each season supposedly set to focus on each book separately if plans go ahead.
Rowling will "retain a level of creative involvement" on the project but she is not expected to serve as the show runner or be credited as creator, the reports say.
When asked for comment, a spokesperson for HBO Max declined to make any public statements on the potential new series, according to MailOnline.
The first novel in the book series, entitled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was released in 1997.
Six further instalments in the hugely popular series were later published with the final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, released in 2007.
The Harry Potter film series began with its first feature in 2001 before being followed by the seven sequels, with the last instalment debuting in 2011.
Former Warners CEO Ann Sarnoff told Comic Book late last year that they would "love to develop more original Harry Potter series," before confirming they "regularly" communicate with JK Rowling and her management.
"It's got to be right though. Whatever we do has to be true to the canon, and true to the ethos of the Wizarding World, and who Harry is," Ann added.
