Hartson sends Rodgers Celtic warning as he praises 'one-off' Liam Scales

Celtic hero John Hartson has fired a warning at Brendan Rodgers, insisting he "must get more out of the players at his disposal".

The Hoops have lost their last two leagues games, the first time this has happened for over 10 years, and their gap has been cut at the top of the Scottish Premiership to just two points.

And while Hartson feels Rodgers needs some backing from the board in the transfer market, he also pointed to the example of Liam Scales, who has turned his career around at Parkhead, as the 50-year-old being able to improve players already at the club.

Speaking on Go Radio, he said: "Rodgers can only work with what he has got. If the club isn’t backing him, then I think he should be doing a little bit more with the players that he has at his disposal.

"That’s where his managerial skills come into it, which he has done with Scales. But Scales was there. He was on his way to Aberdeen.

"One of the reasons Scales came back to Celtic was because they were struggling for centre-backs.

"He was one of the only fit centre-backs he could play. He was brilliant at Ibrox. That was a bit of a one-off with Scales.

'He has been brilliant.”

Meanwhile, Hacken midfielder Romeo Amane is a player Celtic are "considering" making a move for in January.

This is according to Football Scotland who claim that "the playmaker has been watched closely by the Hoops, including during a recent Europa League clash against Qarabag".

Amane is valued at £3million by the Swedish side, having scored three goals and provided three assists for Hacken this season.

He has played every single match in their European campaign, including in a qualifier against Aberdeen back in August where his side knocked out the Dons.

The 20-year-old was also named alongside Parkhead midfielder Odin Thiago Holm in the Golden Boy award for 2023.
