Gogglebox fans praise Tom Malone for 'saving lives' with blood donation

Gogglebox star Tom Malone has been praised by fans after his wife Julie shared a heartwarming update of how he spent one of his last days of 2022.

The Malone family have been regulars on the Channel 4 series since 2014, with Tom, Julie and their kids Tom Jr, Shaun and Vanessa - and their beloved dogs - adored by viewers for their entertaining insights into the week's television. And Tom has now won over even more fans after Julie revealed that he had donated blood at the end of December.

Sharing a photo on the couple's Instagram page of Tom smiling as he made his donation alongside a team of medical staff, Julie explained that the Manchester dad had been giving platelets and plasma. And dozens of fans quickly took to the comments section to explain just how important giving blood could be as they shared their own heart-rending personal stories.

"Thanks Tom. I have low platelets, when my platelets drop to a certain level, I require a platelet transfusion - without people like you this isn’t possible," one person wrote.

Another praised: "Well done Tom. I’ve had a stem cell transplant and was able to use my own cells but many people can't and they rely on people like yourself to donate so thank you very much."

"Thank you Tom! I lost my Mum 4 years ago to leukaemia. The platelets and blood transfusions she received during her illness gave us an extra 2 years with her. People like you are literally saving lives," a third fan said.

And a fourth commented: "Well done to Tom amazing thing to do, my husband has to have regular platelet transfusions and blood transfusions due to his health conditions, he wouldn’t be here without them - much love and respect."

Several fans also expressed hope that Tom's donation would help to encourage others to give blood. "Thanks Tom, such a fantastic thing to do. You will help so many people who vitally need these to potentially save their life," one fan wrote.
