Glasgow mansion narrowly misses out on Scotland's Home of the Year crown

A gorgeous Glasgow mansion has lost out in BBC's Scotland Home of the Year competition.

Kirklee Mansion, an Edwardian renovation in the city's west end, was one of six stunning homes across the country named as a finalist.

The property was originally three townhouses but it is now split to form single-level apartments with the mansion sitting on the first floor.

Homeowners, Jason and John, spent many days and nights restoring it to its former glory.

However, SHOTY judges – interior designers Anna Campbell-Jones and Banjo Beale and architect and lecturer Michael Angus - crowned The Old Train House in Edinburgh during a tense final episode tonight.

The Capital property was boarded up and empty for 10 years before Christina and Ben Blundell transformed it into a welcoming family home.

Christina said: “We’ve been taken aback by all the kindness and interest in our home since it aired.

"I hesitated in applying because I didn’t think our home was grand enough or ‘designed’ enough or colourful enough.

"What I’ve come to realise is that SHOTY is truly about that feeling, comfort and sense of ‘home’ and that’s what the judges were looking for.”
