Girls Aloud surprise crowds with mini onstage reunion as fans go wild

Girls Aloud fans went crazy after some of their idols made a reunion onstage during a music festival over the weekend.

The girl band rose to fame after winning Popstars: The Rivals when they beat their male counterparts One True Voice to Christmas number one with Sound of the Underground in 2002.

They went on to have four number one singles and 21 Top 10 hits in a career which lasted between 2002 and 2009 before a brief return in 2012 for their Ten: The Hits Tour.

Following their split in 2013, the girls made it no secret that they'd fallen out behind the scenes and several members had lost contact.

However, they put their differences aside while supporting Sarah Harding through her breast cancer treatment. She died on September 5, 2021 at the age of 39.

Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Cheryl have continued to dismiss reunion talks in the past, including earlier this year following the 20th anniversary of their debut album Sound of the Underground.

Fans got excited on Sunday night though, when Kimberley and Nicola were together on stage during Mighty Hoopla 2023 at Brockwell Park in south London.

The singers were brought to the stage by Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander for his set and the trio were filmed covering two Girls Aloud hits - The Promise and Call The Shots.

A video of their reunion went viral on Twitter, with caption: "It’s only Kimberley and Nicola off Girls Aloud at @alexander_olly ’s show!"

One fan replied to the clips, saying: "WTF if they could only announce them before. I’m fuming, it’s literally 3/4 of Girls Aloud at the same festival."

Another wrote: "This gives me so many feels," while a third commented: "Oh my f****** god we need full performance pls."

A fourth person said: "Come on Girls! Call Cheryl and Nadine and bring back the fire again."

The timing of their performance will have garnered more interest after Nadine performed on the same venue on Saturday, meaning Cheryl was the only member of the band not on stage over the weekend.

Cheryl had swapped arenas for the Wests End earlier this year after being cast in 2.22 A Ghost Story.

She had been performing in the acclaimed play alongside Jake Wood, Scott Karim and Louise Ford where she play the lead role of Jenny at the Lyric Theatre in London between February and April.
