Gateshead to host Fairytale of New York in a sing-along festive party this December

Irish classics and seasonal hits will combine in a festive treat of a show coming to Sage Gateshead this winter.

Fairytale of New York, taking its name from The Pogues much-loved song that sets the soundtrack to many a Christmas night out, is heading north following its sell-out tours. It will bringing the seasonal party to Sage Gateshead on December 18 with a string of sing-along and dance-along hits.

Ahead of that, the West End show, described as the ultimate feelgood Irish-inspired Christmas production, will also stop off in Darlington during its new UK-wide tour. From the producers of Seven Drunken Nights - The Story of The Dubliners, the show will feature an international cast of singers, musicians and dancers.

And it promises to be quite a cast as - in order to meet demand - the show schedule includes some performances taking place in more than one occasion at the same time. Audiences are expected to join in the songs too which - besides Fairytale of New York; the duet famously sung by The Pogues' Shane MacGowan and singer-songwriter Kirsty MacColl - will include such seasonal favourites as local star Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas as well as Oh Holy Night, Winter’s Tale, White Christmas and Silent Night.

Adding the singalong Irish vibe on the night will be the likes of The Galway Girl, The Irish Rover, Danny Boy, Dirty Old Town and The Black Velvet Band. For tickets to see Fairytale of New York at Sage Gateshead see here.
