Gary Neville believes Arsenal are set for a first-team transfer exit ‘quite quickly’

Gary Neville believes Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya cannot co-exist at Arsenal long-term.

Mikel Arteta surprised many when moving to sign Raya on an initial loan from Brentford ahead of a permanent transfer next summer.

Ramsdale had starred as the Gunners pushed Manchester City close in the Premier League title race but Arteta insists the two can compete.

It is Raya, however, who has been picked for the club’s biggest games this season despite Ramsdale impressing in the Carabao Cup win over Brentford.

The decision to bring in a new goalkeeper has been questioned by pundits, with many believing that is the one area of the pitch that requires certainty.

While Raya endured shaky moments in the opening stages against City, he would appear to have the No.1 shirt for now until Arteta sees fit to change his mind.

Neville simply does not believe that can work and that one of the two will soon have to leave.

“I don’t think it’ll work in that both of them will stay at the club and compete equally,” he said.

“They won’t. One of them will leave or one of them will be so much better than the other because they can’t handle it.

“It’ll end up one of them leaving quite quickly I think, in the next 6-12 months.”
