The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, prompting President Joe Biden to assure that the federal government would cover the expenses.
During a briefing at the White House on Wednesday, Buttigieg mentioned that the administration is considering approaching Congress for funding, although he emphasized that this should not hinder immediate relief efforts. The exact amount needed for the reconstruction is yet to be finalized.
Buttigieg also highlighted that it is premature to estimate the duration of the rebuilding process. He pointed out that the original construction of the bridge took five years, indicating that the restoration is expected to be a lengthy endeavor. 'It is going to be some time,' Buttigieg stated.
