Former Texans CB Shaquill Griffin signs with Minnesota

The Minnesota Vikings have poached a third player from the Texans’ 2023 defense.

Cornerback Shaquill Griffin signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, according to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz. His deal is worth up to $6 million.

Griffin joins former Texans Jonathan Greenard and Blake Cashman in Minnesota. He played 10 games in Houston this past season.

From Weeks 3 to 10, Griffin made six starts in place of an injured Derek Stingley Jr. He allowed 27 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown. Following Stingley’s return, Griffin’s role diminished and the team released him.

Griffin finished the season with the Carolina Panthers, where he made one start in three games. Before that, Griffin made stops in Jacksonville and Seattle. He played seasons with the Seahawks and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2019.

Seattle let Griffin walk after the 2020 season, and he inked a three-year deal worth $40 million with the Jaguars. A fractured vertebra in his back limited him to five games in 2022, and Jacksonville released the veteran corner.

Griffin has 79 starts in his career, 366 tackles, and seven interceptions. He will play for his fourth team in eight seasons.

He arrives in Minnesota as part of a rebuilt defense in the image of defensive coordinator Brian Flores. The former Dolphins head coach and Patriots assistant employs a man-heavy scheme. Griffin’s role with the team is unknown.
