Former I'm A Celebrity star and Lib Dem peer Brian Paddick reveals heartbreak after sudden death of 'beautiful, loving' husband

Former I'm A Celebrity star Brian Paddick has revealed his heartbreak, announcing the news that his 'beautiful, loving' husband Petter died 'peacefully alone' at their Oslo home.

The Liberal Democrat peer, 64, took to social media to share the news with thousands of followers on Monday morning (February 27), saying he was 'devastated'.

Lord Paddick, a former deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police who twice stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate to become London Mayor, said the cause of his husband's death was not 'immediately apparent', adding that it would 'take some time to establish what happened'.

In a tweet, Paddick said: "My beautiful, loving husband, Petter Belsvik, has died suddenly at our home in Oslo. He was found peacefully alone, with no cause of death immediately apparent.

"It will take some time to establish what happened. We were devoted to each other and I am devastated."

Following his Twitter announcement, he was met with a flood of well-wishes and condolences, with Loose Women and I'm A Celeb's Charlene White writing: "Oh my goodness Brian, I'm so so sorry… Sending you and the family my love xx."

Sky News journalist Kay Burley said: 'My dear Brian, this is truly tragic news. All my thoughts are with you. Stay strong xxx" as former BBC Home Affairs correspondent and journalist Danny Shaw wrote: 'So sorry to hear that Brian. What a terrible shock. Thinking of you.'

While little is known about Petter's life, the couple met in a bar while holidaying in Ibiza, before going on to tie the knot in Norway back in 2009.

At the time of their nuptials, same-sex marriage had been legalised just over a week earlier and their ceremony was one of the first high-profile weddings since the legislation was put into place.
