Fighting Addiction: Viewers praise 'wonderful' Emma Willis for supporting husband Matt Willis in new BBC documentary

Busted singer Matt Willis bravely opened up about his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction in new BBC documentary Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction. The hour-long film aired on BBC One on Wednesday, May 17.

In the film Matt described how, at one point in his life, he’d consume six grams of cocaine a day. Wife Emma Willis, whom he has been married to since 2008, broke down in tears discussing how Matt’s addiction had affected their relationship. The couple have three children together.

The 47-year-old former Big Brother presenter described her shock at finding out that Matt, 40, had relapsed in 2016. With tears in her eyes, she said: “You kind of kick yourself a bit, on reflection, because you're like: 'How the f**k didn't I see that?' All those key signs, I hadn't seen for so many years... all coming back.”

Viewers were quick to praise Emma for the way in which she supported Matt. “Emma Willis is clearly a wonderful person,” said one person.

A second echoed: “@EmmaWillis You’re an incredibly strong lady. You should be really proud of yourself.” And a third wrote: “@EmmaWillis I'm living that life now and have for 17 years with my son! Much love and understanding sent your way! You are Matts true ride or die,” upon watching the film.

Elsewhere people respected Matt for being so open about his past. One person said: “I have massive admiration for Matt and Emma Willis for sharing their story. Addiction is an awful disease and making a documentary like this may enable others to have a better understanding of it.”

A further person added: “Matt’s face listening to the girls speak about parents' addiction made me cry. He’s very brave and strong.” Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. For the latest TV and showbiz news sign up to our newsletter here.
