Ex-Rangers ace Greg Stewart 'set for' SPFL return after India stint

Former Rangers forward Greg Stewart is set for a return to the SPFL, according to a report.

The Daily Record states that the 33-year-old is due to return home to Scotland after agreeing to terminate his contract in India.

The attacker has been playing in the Indian Super League since 2021. He starred for both Owen Coyle’s Jamshedpur and Mumbai City, helping the former win the title in 2021.

Stewart - who has also played for Cowdenbeath, Dundee, Birmingham, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen - is due to be contracted until May.

However, it seems that he will make the return to Scotland to be closer to his family this month.

And this has alerted Premiership sides to his availability. It's believed the player is looking to sit down with any interested clubs next week.

Across his 46 appearances for Jamshedpur and Mumbai, he scored 16 goals.

In what looks to have been his last game in India, which was only three weeks ago, he scored, notched an assist and was sent off in a 2-1 win over Mohun Pagan Super Giants.

Stewart is not likely to be short of options, with several top-flight clubs requiring forward players in the transfer window.

Derek McInnes worked with him twice at Aberdeen, and there is also the connection that he previously played for Killie.

He earned his move to Birmingham with his fine form at Dundee though, and the Dens club have attempted to re-sign him before.

Meanwhile, Sam Lammers is set to leave Rangers before the end of the week.

The Dutchman is believed to be close to joining FC Utrecht on loan.

A deal is said to be edging towards competition and could be officially announced within the next 48 hours, with the 26-year-old returning to his homeland.
