Everything to know about Chargers’ victory over Bears

The Chargers beat the Bears in comfortable fashion on Sunday, which snapped their two-game losing streak.

For the first time this season, the Chargers won comfortably. They led by two or more touchdowns since the first quarter.

Game notes

Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports
  • The Chargers scored on every single drive in the first half but failed to find the end zone in the second half.
  • The Chargers averaged just 2.2 yards per carry.
  • Cameron Dicker made all three of his field goal and extra point attempts.
  • The Chargers forced two turnovers.
  • Despite allowing two rushing touchdowns, Los Angeles held the Bears to 2.9 yards per carry.

3 stars of the game

Jonathan Hui-USA TODAY Sports
  1. QB Justin Herbert: 31/40, 298 yards, 3 touchdowns
  2. RB Austin Ekeler: 7 catches, 94 yards, touchdown
  3. Defense: Held the Bears to 13 points, the lowest mark of the season for the Chargers

Quick Hits

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
  • Following a down performance against the Chiefs, Justin Herbert bounced back with an excellent performance. Herbert was nearly flawless in the first half, completing 21 of his 25 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
  • Herbert played with a splint on the middle finger of his non-throwing finger, but it did not phase him during the game. It helped not being under as much pressure as he was in previous games and as a result, Herbert was a lot calmer and composed in the pocket.
  • Austin Ekeler had not been much of a factor since returning to the field after injuring his ankle in the season opener. While he did not produce on the ground, Ekeler was the team’s top pass-catcher, turning seven catches into 91 yards and his first receiving touchdown of the season.
  • Quentin Johnston had been quiet leading up to this game, but he finally got involved in the action. Johnston showed some yards-after-the-catch juice and solid hands. He had five catches for 50 yards. Three receptions resulted in first downs.
  • The running game was underwhelming. Ekeler and Joshua Kelley combined for a measly 2.4 yards per carry.
  • The offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half, but the Chargers could not sustain a similar level of success in the second half. They failed to score a touchdown. They punted twice, had a turnover on downs and lost a fumble. Not much of a big deal, given how big of a lead they had but the stalled second-half offense has been a theme.
  • The defense was solid at all three levels. They held the Bears to 2.9 yards per carry. They picked off Tyson Bagent twice. They limited the explosive passing plays except for the first play of the game, which was a 41-yard reception by D.J. Moore.

What's next?

The Chargers are on the road where they will face the Jets next Monday, Nov. 6, at 6:15 pm PT.
