Elton John awkwardly 'snubs' radio hosts after not realising his microphone is on

Elton John suffered an epic gaffe on a radio show when he didn’t realise his microphone was on and the whole studio could hear him.

The singing sensation was reportedly caught out in an unaired moment ahead of his Capital Breakfast interview last year.

The 75-year-old was due to have a conversation with Capital Breakfast trio Roman Kemp, Sonny Jay and Sian Welby last September.

But the Rocketman singer reportedly had the hosts in stitches before they even went on air after he was heard hilariously trying to learn their names.

The trio were left “wetting themselves” when they overheard him getting their names totally wrong, without realising his microphone was on.

Recalling the Elton interview, Sonny told the Daily Star: "He [Elton] is such a sweet man, but there was a moment when he didn’t realise that we were able to hear him, and it was just before we were going to start speaking to him.

"Whoever was sitting next to him was [telling him], ‘It’s Roman, Sonny and Sian,’ and he’s going, ‘Ronan’, as in Ronan Keating, ‘Sammy’ and just like ‘Sean’."

"We were wetting ourselves thinking, if he comes on and says Roman, Sammy and Sean, this is going to be the best interview ever."

Sonny told the publication that he dared not correct Sir Elton if he had got him name wrong on air too.

"It just reminded me of when you introduce your nan to someone and they can’t get your name right," Sonny said.

“I’m not gonna go, ‘Actually mate it’s Sonny, do you know what I mean? Just let him do it."

While Elton has enjoyed a quiet start to the year, his half-brother hit headlines last week when he brought a ceremonial trident to court before he was fined for possession of magic mushrooms.

The music legend's estranged brother, Geoff Dwight, 56, of North Wales, pleaded guilty to possessing the Class A drugs at his home in December 2021.

He was today fined £120 and ordered to pay £119 in costs at Llandudno Magistrates' Court.

Dwight arrived at Llandudno Magistrates' Court carrying a trident on his shoulder, however, security refused Dwight entry with the object.

Elton John's half-brother claimed the trident said was a 'religious' pole representing Sheba and Britannia, but he was asked to leave the object outside the court before making his entry.
