Edinburgh Zoo to host After Hours evenings for adults with live music, food and drink

Edinburgh Zoo has announced its summer schedule, featuring adults-only After Hours evenings.

There also be a number of family-friendly events at the park too, including open-air theatre performances.

Live music, food and drink will also be on the bill, while there will be a dinousaur-themed family-friendly experience and an event for over 18s only which centres around the upcoming Giraffe About Town Trail.

Announcing what visitors can expect at the zoo this summer, The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) said: "Our popular summer events are returning at Edinburgh Zoo, including After Hours evenings, with family-friendly and over-18s only options, alongside open-air theatre performances.

"Visitors can enjoy the long summer evenings at the zoo and see how the animals spend their time after closing, while also helping the wildlife conservation charity’s vital work around the world.

"This year there will be two styles of After Hours events running on select Friday and Saturdays from June to August. A dinosaur themed takeover will be available for families whilst an adult only offering will celebrate the upcoming Giraffe About Town trail, which will see a herd of 42 giraffe sculptures hit the streets of the capital during the same period.

"July will also see the return of open-air theatre from Chapterhouse Theatre Company, with performances of Pride and Prejudice, Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella."

Lindsay Ross, events and experiences manager at RZSS said: "It is really exciting to bring our After Hours and theatre events back for our visitors after they were such a big hit last year. They offer a great opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of Edinburgh Zoo in the summer evenings, while supporting our charity’s vital conservation work.

"Lots of our animals, including our lions and otter family, are active in the evening, so our After Hours events give visitors more time to marvel at these spectacular species, enjoy live music on the main lawn and explore our new dinosaur exhibit with the best views of Edinburgh from the top of the hill.

"We’ll also have outdoor catering from local vendors and bars for plenty of grazing opportunities. There’s something for everyone at the zoo this summer."

After Hours will run on select Friday and Saturday nights from 17 June - 13 August and Chapter House Theatre will run on limited nights in July.
