Edinburgh Zoo's oldest penguin dies after fox breaks into enclosure during the night

Edinburgh Zoo's oldest penguin has died after a fox broke into their enclosure during the night.

Mrs Wolowitz, the Zoo's oldest and just one of dozens of penguins, was sadly killed after the unwelcomed visitor broke into the enclosure on Wednesday night, August 10.

Sharing the sad news on social media, Edinburgh Zoo said that the rest of the penguins were thankfully unharmed, although Mrs Wolowitz will be a huge miss.

They added: "We know so many of you loved Mrs Wolowitz, our oldest penguin.

"Sadly, we lost her last night after a fox broke into our penguin enclosure. Thankfully, the rest of our colony are unharmed and are doing well. Her massive personality will be missed"

Taking part in shows and winning visitors over with their all-around cuteness, the penguins at the zoo are one of the most popular animals that reside within the huge enclosure in Corstorphine.

The Penguin Rock is also Europe's largest outdoor Penguin pool, where the two-legged animals can swim, waddle and relax all day long. A Penguin cam has also been set up by staff at the Zoo to keep an eye on the enclosure to see what they get up to.
