Edinburgh Trams running special 'Santa Express' in December with treats for kids

The Gyle Santa Express is coming to Edinburgh for Christmas. For two days in early December, the big man in red will be greeting local children and delighting them on a tram trip through the city.

Edinburgh Trams said the Express will “give families the chance to embark on a magical journey in the run-up to Christmas.”

“Gyle Santa Express will be filled with laughter and squeals of delight, with children set to receive a goodie bag and selection box from the man in the big red suit himself,” the trams operator said.

The city’s tram operator joined forces with Gyle Shopping Centre, and the partnership is bringing two days of Santa Express trams to kids in the city.

On Tuesday, Edinburgh Trams announced the Santa Express from Gyle Centre to St Andrew Square on 4 and 5 December.

Edinburgh Trams’ Managing Director Lea Harrison said:

“We always want to bring the festive spirit to our network and there’s no better way to do it than by inviting Santa to ride with us. We’re looking forward to welcoming children onboard for these very special trips which will also raise money for a very worthy cause.”

All children on board the Gyle Santa Express will receive a goodie bag and a selection box from Santa. To receive a present from Santa, families can visit the big man at his Grotto inside the Gyle Shopping Centre.

Gyle Shopping Centre’s Manager Centre Caroline MacQueen said. “We’re

delighted to be partnering again with Edinburgh Trams for Gyle Santa Express and so

pleased it’s back in the calendar this year – it provides an excellent festive experience for

families while promoting our own Grotto in the centre, which highlights to shoppers just

how easy it is to get to Gyle by tram.”

Tickets for the Gyle Santa Express must be booked prior to the event, and tickets include one return journey back to Gyle Centre.

Tickets for Gyle Santa Express cost £5 for one adult and one child, or £3.50 for each

additional adult, with all proceeds going to Edinburgh Trams’ Charity of the Year, Breast

Friends and Family.

The Gyle Santa Express will run three services on Sunday 4 December at 10:25am; 11:40am; and 12:50pm. The service will also run on Monday 5 December at 10:25am and 11:40am. All trips will run from Gyle Centre to St Andrew Square.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from edinburghticket.com.
