Edinburgh tourists duped by viral comic Troy Hawke in side-splitting stunt

Comedian Troy Hawke, known for being the president of the Greeters Guild and baffling locals as he welcomes them into venues across the UK has brought his hilarious act to Edinburgh.

Stood outside the National Galleries of Scotland, Troy welcomed dozens of bamboozled visitors into the historic building by portraying an upbeat member of staff. Going viral on TikTok in recent months, the comedian would stand outside the entrance of supermarkets and even football training grounds and invite people into the establishment with an enormous amount of whit and charm.

Commenting on people's looks, giving them compliments and even rating their choice of groceries, Troy has racked up over half a million followers on the social media app. Recently, the well-known 'greeter' visited the capital and certain locals were baffled when being complimented by the comedian before entering the art gallery.

The Record reports that Troy was in town for the Festival Fringe. Dressed in a purple silk jacket and cravat, the alter ego of award-winning comedian Milo McCabe jokingly referred to Vincent Van Gogh as a "one-eared madman" and at one point, a confused member of staff approaches him to ask if he's "working today."

As is the case in most videos, when Troy is eventually rumbled by confused staff members, he informs them he was sent by the 'Greeters Guild'. In one video standing outside Waitrose, staff scramble to find out whether the comedian really was due to visit the store, before subsequently sending him packing with an escort from security.

One Edinburgh tourist even approached Troy and asked if he knew where he could purchase tickets for the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo that was on show throughout the month of August. The comedy star was in town to bring his new set, Sigmund Troy'd to the Festival and clearly decided to have some fun to promote his show.
