Edinburgh rescuers issue update after reports of person in the water in Leith

Edinburgh emergency services have left the scene after reports of a person in the water at the Shore in Leith.

Police and fire crews were called to the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning. With police confirming enquiries were at an early stage, the search of the water was called off by 9.30am with 'no casualties reported'.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service sent two water rescue units and two fire appliances, after they were called in at 6.30am. These have now left the scene.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.30am on Wednesday, 14 June to reports of a person in the water at the Shore, Edinburgh.

"Two water rescue units and two fire appliances were mobilised to the location, alongside emergency service partners. SFRS has now left the scene and no casualties were reported.”

Earlier this morning, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.45am on Wednesday, 14 June, 2023, we received a report of a possible concern for a person at The Shore in Edinburgh.

"Enquiries are at a very early stage and searches of the area are being carried out.”
