Edinburgh mum slams Evri after saving three months for parcel that never arrived

A single mum from Leith has hit back at courier Evri after telling how her parcel went missing - despite getting a 'delivered' notification.

Steph Mason, 36 is fuming after she spent months saving for an item. But when she got a notification saying it had been 'delivered', it was nowhere to be seen. And it was the time of delivery and photo supplied by Evri that left the mum-of-two baffled.

Speaking exclusively to Edinburgh Live, Steph said how she had noticed a number of people in the Leith area receiving the same delivery notice - the image supplied as 'proof of delivery' is a blurry square, with the time of 10.21pm on January 2, 2023. Several screenshots shared with Edinburgh Live from other Evri customers show the exact same delivery notification - same time, same date, same photo - But they still have not yet received their post.

Steph explained: "They [Evri] didn't even tell me they were coming that day, so I didn't get the notification that they were on their way. When I did get it, it was the following morning, saying it had been delivered at around 10pm the night before."

Once seeing the blurry photo, the single-mum and lollipop lady knew she was not getting her item. She had saved for three months for a handheld spot cleaner.

"It was £145 - which is a lot of money for a mum with a wee part-time job! I was excited for it, it would be good for round the house, the sofa, for the kids' beds.

"I took it up with Studio, who I ordered it from, but they can't give me that money until they complete an investigation. But I haven't heard from Evri. So I'm completely high and dry without it. And I can't even speak to an actual human at Evri, it's ridiculous."

She added: "I'm a single mum, with two young kids and a part-time job. Granted I'm better off than I used to be, but I'm certainly not rolling in it, but this is something I saved for for two to three months to actually buy."

Since speaking to Edinburgh Live, Studio has issued credit and classed it as a 'missing parcel'. Meanwhile Evri still has it noted as 'delivered'.

"With the amount of people who got the exact same notification, at the the same with the same picture, it's like a van's worth of parcels have just disappeared," Steph added.

But Steph can see that this is a wider issue in her community. She adds: "What gets me is that people could be waiting for things like medication -life saving equipment or things like that, and they might not get it."

Steph said: "I've had issues with Evri on-and-off for over two years. But the past couple of months have been absolutely shocking! I live up three flights of floors, and there's no lift unfortunately. Sometimes they would just dump parcels down the stairs.

"At one point a bunch of parcels were left, some for different addresses and they smelled of smoke. My neighbour actually did the legwork and went round to deliver them to the right addresses."

She went on: "It puts me off buying from sellers who use Evri. I think there should be some sort of law that sellers should say who they are using before you pay. That means customers can choose if they want to buy it off them. Usually it isn't until you pay that you get an email saying it will be delivered by Evri."

Another Leith resident, Kirsty Bradley-Hay, 29, was standing right outside her house when she got the notification, just like Steph's, with the exact same blurry photo, claiming her parcel had been delivered at 10.21pm on January 2. However, she told Edinburgh Live that there was not a single van or courier around. Her two deliveries were worth £155 in total and she has since gone to the retailers in an attempt to get a refund.

A spokesperson at Evri said: “We successfully deliver over 700 million parcels a year but occasionally things do go wrong. We are investigating what has happened with this parcel and have reached out to the customer.“
