East Kilbride boss to raid old club Darvel with 'two or three' more signings from WOSFL side

Mick Kennedy will raid his old club Darvel as he expects to add a few more signings to his East Kilbride squad this week.

The new gaffer’s revolution got underway in earnest as players returned to training last midweek, and the club have recruited from across the Scottish football pyramid to piece together the foundations of a squad they hope will take them to the SPFL.

Former Darvel aces Andy Stirling and Chris McGowan were announced among 12 new signings over the past week, and Kennedy isn't finished there, as he plans on picking up more players from the squad that he guided to a huge Scottish Cup upset over Premiership Aberdeen last season.

Kennedy expects the club to announce the arrivals in the coming days, while ex-Motherwell and St Mirren defender Richard Tait is due in for training this week to discuss the potential move Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed last week.

On his signing spree, Kennedy said: “With the philosophy we are trying to implement and the style of play, it’s important we bring in players I’ve worked with previously.

“There will probably be another two or three from Darvel announced this week.

“The numbers we have in the squad are strong and the boys are looking fit already. We are in a good place, we just need to get the final recruitment done.

“We’ve got some signings in the pipeline that are taking a wee bit longer than anticipated, but we should have another few in soon.

"I've not spoken to Richard since last week but we are hoping he will come in this week, and we'll have another look at that situation."

Last week, Kennedy handed the captain's armband to 24-year-old Liam Brown, who made eight appearances for Queen’s Park last season.

He added: “I know Liam personally and I know his attributes. He has exceptional footballing ability.

“He is quite a young captain, but he has good experience already and he is keen to take the club forward. He is a good fit for the club and the position.”
