Driver Charged With DUI Manslaughter In Deadly Florida Bus Crash

People are transported from a fatal school bus crash in Austin

This morning, a tragic incident unfolded in Marion County, Florida, approximately 90 minutes northwest of Orlando. A pickup truck driver has been charged with eight counts of DUI manslaughter following a deadly crash involving a bus carrying 53 farm workers, eight of whom lost their lives. The victims, all men from Mexico, were in the United States on temporary agricultural worker visas.

The bus was en route to a farm when it was struck by another vehicle, causing the bus driver to lose control. The bus crashed through a fence and overturned, resulting in the loss of eight lives and injuries to at least 40 other workers. The devastating accident occurred around 6:35 a.m. yesterday in central Florida.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 41-year-old Brian McLean Howard, is facing charges of DUI manslaughter. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding Howard's condition at the time of the crash. Consulate officials in Orlando are working with Mexican authorities to notify the families of the deceased workers in Mexico.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences of driving under the influence. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
