A dog has been rescued after plunging off a cliff at a Scots golf course. Emergency services were called to Eyemouth Golf Club, in the Borders, after the animal got into bother shortly before 1pm on Thursday, May 11.
Both Berwick and Dunbar Coastguard crews raced to the scene as well as members of the Eyemouth Lifeboat team. Upon arrival they discovered that the pooch was stuck over the cliff.
A rope rescue technician was quickly lowered over and they managed to successfully secure the dog using an animal rescue bag. Coastguards pulled both the technical and the dog up to the cliff top - and they were stunned to discover the pooch had miraculously not suffered any obvious injuries.
The dog was taken home by its thankful owners with advice to monitor and take it to vet if they had any concerns. The Eyemouth Coastguard team posted about the incident on their Facebook page before thankful locals congratulated the team.
A picture taken from the scene, which was posted on their social media page, showed the complexity of the rescue mission. Seven people could be seen pulling the technician and the dog, which was in a red rescue bag, up the cliff using a rope.
One woman, believed to be the owner of the dog, commented: "Well done. Thank you again. So grateful." Another person said: "Round of applause. You all rock." A third added: "Well done lads."
A spokesperson for Eyemouth Coastguard said: "If you see anyone in danger on our coastline, cliffs or on the water, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
