Doctor Who newcomer Millie Gibson thrown Cardiff birthday party by Ncuti Gatwa and co-stars

New Doctor Who star Millie Gibson has given fans an insight into her birthday celebrations as she shared a number of pictures on Instagram of a party thrown for her by her BBC co-stars and crew.

The former Coronation Street star, who turned 19 on Monday, June 19, took a short video clip of a beautiful picnic spread her Doctor Who family had made for her while the team were on set in Cardiff. Included was a cake emblazoned with 'Happy Birthday Millie', sushi, Disney princess decorations, macarons, gyozas, and shloer - all to be enjoyed on a low table surrounded by comfy cushions.

Captioning the video, the 19-year-old wrote: "Work birthday party? No you did have not," followed by teary-eyed emojis, tagging her co-star Ncuti Gatwa.

In a picture that followed this clip, fans saw the 15th Doctor Who donning a silver party crown as he struck a pose at the do.

Millie, who plays Ruby Sunday in the new instalment of the popular BBC show, has been in Cardiff since filming for the programme began in December, 2022 - read more on that here. Soon after, she posted a tweet in which she called herself 'Officially a Cardiff resident' - see here - and, keeping true to that statement, frequently visits restaurants in the city, such as Thomas by Tom Simmons.

Before joining Doctor Who, Millie is best known for playing Kelly Neelan in the long-running iconic ITV soap, Coronation Street. She left the show in 2022 after being involved in explosive storylines such as Seb Franklin's murder, Asha Alahan's viral images drama and the discovery that her guardian, Gary Windass, murdered her father. In November, 2022, it was announced that she would be taking on the time traveling companion role of Ruby Sunday.

While we don't know where this birthday celebration has taken place, the cast of Doctor Who have been spotted filming all over the city - in locations such as the Sherman Theatre, Tredegar House and on Axminster Road - as production for the fourteenth series gets well underway. And fans have been delighted after seeing the stars of the show - dressed in costumes spanning centuries (regency-era clothing and even 60s fashion) - around Wales - read more on that here.
