Disney giving promotion for Disney+

The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) -) has been battling crisis after crisis, and it’s turning to a big promotion to try to combat a few of them.

Disney has put the ad-included version of its streaming service, Disney+ Basic, on sale for just $1.99 for the next three months. The service normally goes for $7.99, and promo subscribers will have to pay this regular number after the initial three months.

Customers have until Sept. 20 to access the Disney+ deal.

DON’T MISS: ESPN blacked out for millions on huge sports day due to Disney dispute

Disney is currently facing a holdout with Charter Communications (CHTR) -) and its cable network Spectrum. Disney’s channels, including National Geographic, Disney Channel, and ESPN, have been blacked out to Spectrum’s 14.7 million subscribers. This Disney+ promo move may be a way to help bring in some of the Spectrum subscribers who have lost access to their channels, according to a report by the New York Post.

The two sides have already let out statements with both hoping that they can negotiate a deal, but there’s been no indication that there’s an end in sight.

More Disney/Charter:

But this promo could simply be an attempt for Disney to build its subscriber base that has not grown as of late.

Disney lost 11.7 million subscribers between the first and second quarters of 2023, largely driven by the decline in Disney+ Hotstar, which is the company’s service in India.

However, Disney+ still saw a slight drop from 46.3 million to 46 million subscribers domestically, which accounts for the U.S. and Canada.
