Demon Gawn gets good news on injury front

Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn has received good news on his hamstring injury, with the star big man only expected to miss two weeks.

Gawn sent a scare through the Demons' camp last Friday when he felt his hamstring tighten up.

Subsequent scans revealed a low-grade hamstring strain, with the minor nature of the injury meaning the 31-year-old is still on track to play during the pre-season.

"Max was closely monitored over the weekend, and we were really pleased with how his hamstring settled," Demons head of medical Laura Lallenec told the club website.

"He has now commenced a modified program, with the view to reintegrate him into training over the next fortnight.

"Given the relatively short period of time that Max will miss, we are confident this won't impact his preparation for the start of the season."

Gawn is set to team up with new recruit Brodie Grundy in a formidable ruck duo this year.

Grundy joined the Demons during the trade period after 177 games with Collingwood.

The 28-year-old played just six games last season, with a knee injury and then an ankle stress fracture ruining his campaign.

Meanwhile, Bulldogs recruit Rory Lobb brushed aside any injury concerns by returning to training on Monday.

Lobb injured his ankle at training last week, but the issue was not serious.

The former Docker, who has a history of rolling his ankle in games, looms as a key cog up forward for the Bulldogs this season.

Collingwood defender Darcy Moore has started running after a bone infection delayed his start to pre-season.

The Magpies will take a careful approach with Moore, but hope he will be fit for round one of the AFL season.
