David and Victoria Beckham nominated for first ever TV BAFTA

David and Victoria Beckham have achieved a joint career first after receiving a nomination at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards.

The retired England footballer, 48, and the former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designed, 49, are up for the Memorable Moment award for their now iconic Rolls-Royce exchange in their Netflix documentary.

Four-part docu-series, Beckham, hit the streaming giant in October 2023 and gave fans an intimate insight into the Beckhams’ marriage and early romance, their family life, as well as charting the athlete’s footballing career.

One particular scene however took on a life of its own and not only spawned a series of memes, a t-shirt slogan and an Uber Eats Super Bowl ad, it’s now up for a nod at the prestigious annual event.

The moment in question sees Victoria, whose nickname while in the Spice Girls was “Posh Spice”, attempt to claim that she was from a “working class” family before David pointed out that her father in fact used to drive her to school in a Rolls-Royce.

While undoubtedly a strong contender, it faces stiff competition against the other nominees in the category, which were announced earlier on Wednesday.

Those up against the famous duo for the award include Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa for when he was revealed as the 15th Doctor on BBC One.

Happy Valley, Catherine Cawood and Tommy Lee Royce's final kitchen showdown on BBC One is in the running.

Plus, Bill and Frank's Story on The Last of Us, Sky Atlantic as well as 13-year-old Lucy stuns commuters with jaw dropping piano performance, The Piano - Channel 4.

And finally, Logan Roy's death in Succession is also in the Memorable Moments category.

Voting will close on Tuesday April 9 and the winner will be announced at the BAFTA Television Awards with P&O Cruises on Sunday May 12.
