Daughters Reflect on Life with Iconic Musician James Brown Legacy

James Brown American singer and dancer

James Brown, known as the 'Godfather of Soul,' left a lasting legacy that continues to be celebrated by his family and fans alike. In a sneak peek of the upcoming docuseries James Brown: Say It Loud, his daughters Deanna Brown and Dr. Yamma Brown offer a glimpse into their lives growing up with the musical icon as their father.

Deanna, 55, reflects on the valuable life lessons she learned while traveling with her father on tour. Despite earning a college degree, she credits her father for teaching her important business principles and values. Deanna fondly recalls her mother, Deidre Jenkins, as a devoted homemaker who embraced her role as Mrs. James Brown.

Meanwhile, Yamma, 52, shares an endearing story about her unique name, inspired by her father's love for Japan and the iconic Mount Fujiyama. Yamma reminisces about her father's serious demeanor and humorously recalls his critiques of her appearance, particularly her hair, during her childhood.

The docuseries promises to delve into James Brown's remarkable journey from a troubled youth in the Jim Crow-era South to a revered entertainment legend. Through personal struggles, racial injustices, and career setbacks, James Brown overcame obstacles to shape a new narrative of Black Pride and masculinity through his music, style, and activism.

James Brown: Say It Loud is set to premiere as a two-part series on A&E on February 19th and 20th, offering audiences an intimate look into the life and legacy of the influential artist whose impact transcended generations. Stay tuned to witness a compelling narrative of triumph, redemption, and the enduring spirit of a musical icon.
