Daniel Radcliffe Responds To Critics Of His Stance On J.K. Rowling

Daniel Radcliffe Actor

Daniel Radcliffe has responded to critics who accuse him of being ungrateful towards J.K. Rowling in light of his recent criticisms of the author. Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling's controversial remarks about the trans community, Radcliffe, along with other Harry Potter stars, has distanced himself from the author, emphasizing that they do not share her views.

Radcliffe's acting career took off when he was cast as the lead in the first Harry Potter film in 2001, based on Rowling's beloved book series. While acknowledging that his career owes much to Rowling's creation, Radcliffe asserts that he does not feel obligated to align with her beliefs indefinitely.

In an interview with the Atlantic, Radcliffe expressed his sadness over Rowling's anti-trans comments and disclosed that he has had no direct communication with her since the controversy erupted in June 2020. Despite the bond they once shared through the magical world she crafted, Radcliffe is disheartened by the situation.

Radcliffe's stance against Rowling's views stems from his involvement with the LGBTQ+ charity, the Trevor Project, for over a decade. He felt compelled to speak out against her comments, asserting that 'transgender women are women' and distancing himself from her opinions.

Rowling recently responded to a user on X who demanded a public apology from Radcliffe and his co-star Emma Watson for their criticism of her views. In reply, Rowling defended her position, stating that celebrities supporting movements that undermine women's rights should refrain from apologizing. Radcliffe, in response, reiterated his support for LGBTQ+ rights without further elaboration.
