Dalkey Lobster Festival announces long awaited return after three years

Organisers of the Dalkey Lobster Festival have announced the event's return to the delight of locals.

After a three year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the festival returns to the historic coastal Dublin town between August 26 and 28. The 2022 edition of Dalkey Lobster Festival will be a combination of culinary demos and "exquisite dining".

The festival will also feature live music, street entertainment and artisan exhibits. Visitors can expect to see a host of familiar faces who will appear on the Main Stage within the Lobster Village, which will be located in The Tramyard this year.

Well-known names from the world of food slated top appear at Dalkey Lobster Festival include Derry Clarke, Peter Roberts of Roberts of Dalkey, JP McMahon, Mark Moriarty, Arun Kapil, journalist Lorraine Keane and rugby legends Shane Byrne and Fergus McFadden.

It is expected that over 6,000kg of lobster will be served over the festival weekend. Breast Cancer Ireland is the charity partner this year and many of the organisation's ambassadors will be at the festival to raise as much funds as they can.

Veteran restauranteur, Padraic Hanley of Bubba’s Fish Market in Dalkey said of the upcoming Dalkey Lobster Festival: "We are thrilled to be in a position to bring back our beloved Lobster Festival this summer. It really is a labour of love for so many of us but when we see generations of families coming back together, year after year, it makes it all worthwhile."

He added: "The Festival is all about community and having fun and it really is a fantastic opportunity to remind people of all that is available in Dalkey."

Padraic Hanley started the Dalkey Lobster Festival over ten years ago with several other local traders. He is chair of this year's organising committee.
