Dalbeattie Primary pupils have a great time for Fairtrade Fortnight

Dalbeattie Primary pupils had a great time during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Their banana and chocolate chip cakes resulted in a donation of around £50 being made to the Fairtrade Organisation.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations of ingredients, including Fairtrade chocolate and bananas from Dalbeattie Co-op, Spar and Castle Douglas Tesco. Thanks also go to Mrs Houston for all her help and the eco committee for making them.

The other main activity was a Fairtrade community challenge.

Pupils were encouraged to take part in an optional out of school activity to identify as many Fairtrade products as they could in the Dalbeattie shops.

First place went to Katya and Rosa Lennon who found the most Fairtrade items. Second place went jointly to Niamh McCormick and Caitlin Hose.

Third place went jointly to James Campbell, Lucy Bell and Talia Keegan.

Thanks to Dalbeattie Co-op, Spar and Londis for facilitating this and to Tesco Castle Douglas for the donation of eggs and Maltesers which were used as prizes.

These, together with some Mars Bars and Co-op Fairtrade chocolate, formed the chocolate prize treats, because all these brand names are Fairtrade supporting. Certificates were also awarded.

The school is grateful to everyone who made these events possible because activities like this help retain Fair Achiever school status.
