Masked knifemen ransack family home, take daughters hostage and vow to kill son

A terrified dad has told how a machete gang took his daughters hostage and threatened to kill his son before ransacking their home.

Mohammed Ali, 39, woke to screams from his two young girls as four robbers, also armed with a meat cleaver and a brick, burst in and escaped with his car.

The HGV driver first saw two intruders on the stairs as another held a knife against the throats of his daughters, aged seven and 12, in
the living room.

And seconds later when his son emerged from his bedroom, one of the men yelled, “Kill him! Kill him!” before moving towards the 18-year-old.

Mohammed said he pushed the lad back into his bedroom and ran to a bathroom, where they took refuge while the robbers hacked at the doors with machetes.

After five minutes, the masked gang fled the four-bedroom home in his white Seat Leon after finding the keys.

Mohammed, who does not know why his home was raided, feels like he had failed his family.

He said: “I’ve not slept since. My family is broken. My kids wouldn’t come home.

“It was my daughter’s birthday yesterday and everything is spoiled. I don’t know what to do or say to them.”

Mohammed said he had gone to bed, leaving his youngest son, five, and two girls watching TV at their home in Oldham, Gtr Manchester.

His make-up artist wife Michelle Dunkley, 40, had forgotten her keys so he had unlocked the door.

Two hours later at 11pm he heard screams before the gang raided his semi-detached home last Tuesday.

Mohammed said his children were unharmed despite their trauma and the only other item stolen was a box of miniature dolls.

After he shared footage of the robbery, he said another family in nearby Rochdale reported the same gang had attacked them an hour later.

Mohammed said he reported the raid to Greater Manchester Police but did not think they were taking the incident seriously.

He added: “It’s absolutely disgraceful. It’s like they’re not bothered.”

The force confirmed officers had attended an address after an aggravated burglary.

It said police had responded to a call after four men entered a home and threatened the occupants with bladed weapons before stealing a car.

Det Insp Andrew Fink called the attack shocking and said his officers were determined to catch the gang.

He also appealed for CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage.
