D-Backs Reward Manager Torey Lovullo for World Series Run With Contract Extension

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo has been rewarded for the team’s successful 2023 season. Following Arizona’s run to the World Series, Lovullo has reportedly received a contract extension from the organization.

According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, Lovullo will see two new years tacked onto his contract, which will now run through the 2026 season.

Lovullo had previously been awarded a one-year extension in June, extending his deal through the 2024 season. General manager Mike Hazen told Lovullo then that they’d revisit his contract at the end of the season.

Following a tremendous and unexpected run to the Fall Classic, in which the Rangers eventually upended the D-Backs, Lovullo has reportedly received a multi-year extension. Since 2020, he’s worked on one-year contracts with the team.

For the first time since 2020, Torey Lovullo will have a multi-year contract with the Diamondbacks.

Lovullo just capped off his seventh season as the manager in Arizona, and it was his most successful season to date. The Diamondbacks won 84 games, squeaking into the postseason as a Wild Card team before defeating the BrewersDodgers, and Phillies in order along their run to the World Series.

Across seven seasons, Lovullo has a record of 495–537. He’s reached the postseason twice in his managerial career, including this year’s World Series appearance which came just two seasons after Arizona finished with a league-worst 52 wins in 2021.

The front office was clearly impressed with the team’s turnaround and now Lovullo will have the reigns for another few seasons at least, having extended his stay as manager of the Diamondbacks for an additional two years.
