Coronation Street: What's next for Millie Gibson after dramatic show exit?

Millie Gibson has revealed her plans for the future after her dramatic Coronation Street exit.

The soap star is renowned for her portrayal of Kelly Neelan in the long-running ITV show. The 18-year-old joined the Corrie cast in 2019 and has become one of the show's most important characters.

However, her time on the Cobbles came to an end on Friday in dramatic fashion after her revenge plot on Gary Windass took a disastrous turn. Millie has revealed why she thought the time was right to quite Weatherfield.

According to Mirror Online, she said: "I have no responsibilities – I don’t have kids, I don’t have a mortgage to pay or anything like that, I’m still grateful to be living at home. So I thought I’m just going to see what else the world has. If it does, it does - that would be quite good, wouldn’t it?

"I just thought I might as well see what happens while I’m still young. Because I’m so young I thought I’ve got to leave. It was a decision where it would always be in the back of my mind if I didn’t make it, so I had to just go with it and see what happens."

Millie issued a blunt response to whether she would appear in another soap such as EastEnders or Emmerdale. She said: "No, never. No."

Millie said she hopes to follow in the footsteps of soap stars such as Suranne Jones as she takes the next step in her career. She said: "I'm currently auditioning so I’m just going to see how that goes. I've got so many roles in mind. I'm trying to keep myself grounded but at the same time I need to bet on myself, if that makes sense.

"I really like dramas, I’d love to do a drama again. A period drama would be incredible – I'd have to take my lashes off!"
