Coronation Street legend to make surprise comeback after quitting ITV soap five years ago

Coronation Street fans are in for a surprise as an old favourite is set to make a comeback to the ITV soap.

Actor George Banks is set to reprise the role of Gemma Winter-Brown's boyfriend Henry Newton after he played the cheeky chap from 2017 to 2018 before he left a year later, leaving fans heartbroken at the time.

Gemma's boyfriend Henry is set to come back on the scene briefly as Gemma finds herself broke and needing a job, ending with her turning to her old flame Henry as she begins working for him.

However, the revelation about who her new boss is sure to ruffle some feathers between Gemma and her husband Chesney.

Actor George first appeared in Weatherfield as Henry in 2017 when he started dating Gemma as part of dare with his friends.

The actor's final scenes saw Henry being thrown into the back of Chesney's stolen car by kidnappers and driven away into the distance and he was never seen again on screen - much to the annoyance of his fans who always said he was 'very easy on the eyes'.

George's return to the cobbles comes as Coronation Street looks set for yet another double exit - just a week after Evelyn and her daughter's taxi departure on Friday.

One of those could be Spider, who only made a reappearance on the ITV soap last year.

Spider made a shock return to Weatherfield in 2022 after 19 years away, with his identity later exposed as an undercover police officer attempting to convict an underground hate group.

He had befriended far-right extremist Griff Reynolds, who began grooming Max Turner. Spider had been planning to give all the evidence he had received about Griff to his boss to get him convicted, but Griff managed to figure out he was a cop and brutally beat him up.

Griff went on to plan to bomb the winter market on Coronation Street, but his plot was foiled after Max warned everyone and Alya drove the bomb off where no one would be hurt.

After finally leaving hospital, Spider arrested Griff for conspiracy to commit murder.

This week, Spider attends a meeting with his superintendent, who tells him about a new job which could mean moving away with a new identity.

Will he agree to the job despite his blossoming relationship with Toyah? And will it really protect him from Griff, who's out for blood?
