Constituency offices of two Tory MSPs vandalised in Inverness

THE Inverness constituency offices of two Tory MSPs for the Highlands and Islands have been vandalised.

A poster of MSP Edward Mountain facing the street was defaced, with "sh** hair c***" written across his forehead and block shading applied to his upper lip, emulating Adolf Hitler.

A crack is visible on the glass covering the MSP's picture, but Mountain told The National this damage was from a past act of vandalism.

He also said that a photo of Jamie Halcro Johnston MSP, who shares a constituency office with him, was also vandalised, with "a phallic symbol drawn on his face."

Mountain said of Thursday's vandalism: "It was done when the person who mans the office was out for lunch.

"As puerile and childish as it was, of somebody to do that, I feel sorry for them if that's the best they've got to do.

"For the person who works in the office, who is a relatively young caseworker, I think it's quite disturbing.

"I think that, as elected representatives, I fully understand that not everyone will support what we do, but I think that people should give us the space to do the job we're doing without being offensive.

"I would never condone people being offensive."

The MSP posted on Twitter/X in response to the incident: "Thanks to the person who defaced our office. I hope you have a happy Christmas."

Mountain said that the vandalism had been raised with Police Scotland.

Police Scotland and Jamie Halcro Johnston have been contacted for comment.
