Come Dine With Me guests stun Cardiff host by comparing her cheesecake to toothpaste

Come Dine With Me has made its way to Wales' capital city this week and during the first of five episodes on Monday, February 13, the contestants were left with a strange taste in their mouths after biting into their desserts.

The show see five locals showcasing their culinary skills in the hope of being crowned the perfect dinner party host and bagging £1,000 in the process. The first Cardiff host hoping to impress was mental health support worker and aspiring singer Tracey who prepared a Carribean carnival-inspired meal for her four guests - Ashley, Nathanial, Julio and Alice.

The menu featured a rum punch welcome drink, run dun ackee and saltfish to start (with a vegetarian alternative), mutton curry for mains and to finish off a mint chocolate cheesecake.

But it seems that Tracey's cheesecake - which was meant to "tantalise and cleanse the pallette" - didn't quite live up to expectation, with one of the guests, Nathanial, stating with a chuckle: "It's like eating toothpaste, innit?"

Tracey responded with a pointed finger: "You wait 'til it's your night, mate!"

Nathanial added: "I can't eat anymore of that," before later saying in the VT: "It was probably the nicest toothpaste I've ever had. But it was toothpaste."

And it seems that it wasn't just Nathanial who found its taste rather unappetising. Julio commented: "My teeth actually feel cleaner, really white."

Artist Ashley had a different view and instead of noting on its flavour, stated how he didn't quite enjoy the cheesecake as a whole. "It just wasn't a cheesecake. It was very thick and there was no flavour."

Although Alice, despite not remembering what it tasted like for laughing so much, added to the feedback with a much kinder take on it: "I don't think it was like Colgate, like the boys had tasted."

Tracey, who cooked the entire meal with enthusiasm was not disheartened by these comments, saying to viewers at the end of the episode: "Even though I served them toothpaste, my beautiful cheesecake, I've still got it in the bag," and signed off with a little dance shimmy.

In fact, Tracey proved to be quite the entertainer throughout the evening and at one point revealed she had a hernia which she'd named Erica as well as giving her guests a hearty performance of Otis Redding's '(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay'. She ended up with 26 points with the four guests justifying it with her performance, "ok" food and larger than life personality.

Come Dine With Me continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday, February 14 at 5.30pm.
