Collin Morikawa, Jason Day lead notable players to miss 2024 Farmers Insurance Open cut at Torrey Pines

SAN DIEGO — Eight of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking made the trip to this week’s PGA Tour stop along the California coast, and five made the 36-hole cut, the only time this season there will be a Thursday cut.

While most of the top-ranked players in the field earned tee times for the South Course at Torrey Pines on Friday and Saturday, a handful of well-known players will be heading home (or up the road to Pebble Beach) earlier than planned from the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open.

In all, 79 players made the cut, leading to threesomes going off both the 1st and 10th tee.

Here are the notable PGA Tour players (and southern California club professionals) who are heading home early after missing the cut – which came in at 3 under – at Torrey Pines.

Morikawa was in good shape after a 5-under 67 on Wednesday on the North Course but got bit by two double bogeys Thursday on the South Course to miss the cut by one.

Sungjae Im, 2 under

Im avoided the big numbers on Wednesday’s trip around the North Course with a 1-over 73 but didn’t go low enough on Thursday with a 3-under 69 and missed the cut by one.

Jason Day, 1 over

Day struggled in the first round on the South Course with a 2-over 74 and and didn’t do enough with a 1-under 71 on the North Course in round two.

Michael Block, 1 over

Block was flirting with the weekend after a 3-under 69 effort in the first round but a disappointing 4-over 76 doomed him to yet another missed cut on Tour since his 15 minutes of PGA Championship fame.

Eric Cole, 4 over

The reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year finished T-14, T-13, T-21 to start his 2024 campaign but a pair of 74s has led to his first missed cut of the year and first since the Charles Schwab Challenge last May.

Daniel Berger, 6 over

Berger finished T-39 in his return to the Tour from injury at last week’s American Express but came dead last this weekend at 6 over.
