Chris Evans Reflects On Marvel Legacy And Future Captain America

Chris Evans looks happy.

Recently, Chris Evans made an appearance at Emerald City Con 2024 and expressed his unwavering support for comic book movies, a genre he is forever linked to due to his iconic portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for almost a decade.

During his appearance, Evans emphasized that comic book movies often do not receive the credit they deserve, despite being massive productions with numerous creative contributors. He acknowledged the challenges of making such films, noting that the process is far from easy and that not all comic book movies hit the mark.

Evans singled out 2014's 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' as his personal favorite Marvel movie to work on, citing the collaborative and risk-taking nature of the project. He praised the film for allowing the character of Captain America to evolve and for providing a more fulfilling experience compared to his earlier Marvel films.

Although Evans bid farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after 'Avengers: Endgame' in 2019, he remains open to the idea of returning to tell more Steve Rogers stories in the future. However, he expressed a sense of caution and reverence for the role, indicating that any potential return would need to feel right and honor the legacy of the character.

Following Evans' departure, the mantle of Captain America was passed on to Anthony Mackie's character, Sam Wilson/Falcon, as seen in 'Avengers: Endgame.' The Disney+ series 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' further explored Sam's journey to becoming the new Captain America, setting the stage for the upcoming Marvel project 'Captain America: Brave New World,' where Mackie's Sam Wilson will take on the role of the iconic superhero.

While Evans remains connected to the character of Captain America and appreciates the impact of his time in the role, he is cautious about potentially returning to the role in the near future, emphasizing the need to preserve the integrity of the character and the legacy of his portrayal.
