Cavaliers Dominate Magic In Game 1 Victory

Orlando Magic's Jalen Suggs (4) shoots ahead of Cleveland Cavaliers' Max Strus (1) during the second half in Game 1 of an NBA basketball first-round playoff series, Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Clevel

The Cleveland Cavaliers showed a marked improvement in their playoff performance as they defeated the Orlando Magic 97-83 in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Led by Donovan Mitchell's 30 points, the Cavs displayed mental and physical toughness that was lacking in last year's postseason.

After a disappointing first-round exit in the previous playoffs, the Cavaliers entered this postseason with renewed confidence, depth, and better health. Despite Mitchell's lingering knee injury, he showcased his All-Star caliber with a strong performance, supported by Jarrett Allen's dominant rebounding and contributions from Evan Mobley and Darius Garland.

Orlando's Paolo Banchero scored 24 points in his playoff debut but struggled with turnovers and poor shooting, as the Magic shot just 33% from the field. The lack of playoff experience was evident in Orlando's disorganized offense and inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

The Cavaliers controlled the game for the most part, with Mitchell's scoring outbursts and a strong defensive effort limiting the Magic's offensive production. Despite a brief comeback attempt by Orlando in the fourth quarter, Cleveland maintained composure and closed out the game decisively.
