Car crashes through downstairs bedroom window of elderly woman's home in Twickenham

Shocking pictures have shown a car smashed through the downstairs bedroom window of an elderly woman’s flat in south-west London.

Emergency services were called to the property on Belmont Road in Twickenham last Wednesday at around 5pm to dramatic scenes of the crash involving a silver 2011 Honda hatchback.

According to neighbours, the resident of the property had been home at the time of the crash but had luckily been in another room. Neither she or the driver were understood to be injured, but the property was left damaged.

One neighbour told local news site Twickenham Nub News that the driver may have been trying to park and accidentally hit the accelerator.

“I heard she was trying to park,” the neighbour said.

“But she's elderly, so maybe she pressed the wrong button by mistake. Thankfully no one was hurt.”

Another said there were chaotic scenes as emergency services descended on the scene.

“I just suddenly heard sirens and saw all these flashing lights,” the Belmont Road resident said.

“I went outside and it was unbelievable. The car had gone right through into the house. It's a miracle everyone was okay.”

Pictures from the scene now show the house, thought to contain flats, boarded up.

The images were shared by online broadcaster Jeremy Vine.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Belmont Road, Twickenham at about 18:03hrs on 27 March following reports that a car had collided with a house.

“Officers attended. No one was injured.”
